Svaroopa® Yoga

Svaroopa® Yoga was developed by Rama Berch, CSYT, RYT, who
had extensive trainings in several yoga styles.  Rama saw
students attempting to force their bodies into poses; her personal
experiences revealed softer, supported alignments, which allow
students to flow into each pose.  From her experiences she
created the healing and restorative practice of Svaroopa® as a
way to use the body to access the inner Self, the true Self.  Many
students find that Svaroopa® Yoga releases the body from pain
caused by injuries, stress and tension.  The muscles re-learn
flexibility and the body acquires stamina, suppleness, strength.
Concurrently the mind quiets and gentle peacefulness ensues.
We call this “finding the bliss of your own being”,  and many
practitioners refer to Svaroopa® as “Bliss Yoga”.

While this is not Gentle yoga, the style is nurturing.  While
Svaroopa® does not fall into the ‘exercise’ category, muscles
develop strength, the body attains stamina.

Each 90 minute class begins and ends with a guided awareness.
Beginning with the tail bone area, muscle tension, core tension, is
released up the entire spine.  Many people work to tighten their
core muscles, but any person in pain with a stiff neck or back
understands that a tight muscle is a weak muscle.  Svaroopa®
teachers instruct students into learning how to release these tight
muscles deep in the core of the spine.  The release of these
muscles allows blood and nutrients to flow, once again, into areas
that were too constricted to maintain proper chemical exchange.
This not only promotes pain relief, it allows the body to heal itself
– an action medically referred to as Homeostasis.

Svaroopa® Yoga uses many familiar poses and has adapted
various poses into new and excitingly different ways.  Many
dancers and other athletes find in this practice a way to stabilize
weak hip and knee joints,  enjoy reduced pain, and increased
flexibility.
